At Dance Edge we expect all students to wear the appropriate clothing for their style of dance and their level. In dance, the body creates various lines which cannot be seen if the student is wearing loose baggy clothing. Tight fitting clothing is also worn to ensure correct body alignment and technique. These can all be ordered through the Dance Edge office.
All Students should come to class with neat and tidy hair pulled back from the face. Hair that cannot be tied up into a bun may be worn in a ponytail. Head bands are permitted to keep loose hair off the face. It is a good idea to keep a hair kit in your dance bag. This may include a brush, fine tooth comb, small spray bottle with water, elastics, bobby pins and hair nets. Students coming straight from school should take a few moments to tidy their hair before entering class
Ballet
Students in all ballet classes should wear a black 'Penelope' leotard by Energetiks, black 'melody' wrap skirt by Energetiks, Salmon pink 'Classic' tights (either footed or convertible). Canvas ballet shoes may be worn for class if preferred; however, leather ballet shoes are required for all performances, including the end-of-year show.
Jazz and Tap
Students should wear a black 'Penelope' leotard by Energetiks, black v-band shorts, Skin Classic Energetiks tights, tan leather jazz shoes/tan lace up tap shoes.
Contemporary and Lyrical
Contemporary students have the option to wear the 'Penelope' leotard or the Dance Edge tank top. Bike shorts and convertible tights in Salmon Pink. No shoes are worn for contemporary and Lyrical.
Jazz Funk, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre
Black team Dance Edge T-shirt, black shorts, black lace-up canvas shoes.
Musical theatre students can wear their own choice of
bottoms as long as they can move freely.
